Paul Sheard

A bit about Paul

I was born in Birmingham but left at 18 (I’m still trying to shake the accent 15 years later) to join the British Army. I found CrossFit whilst still serving and was hooked after seeing huge improvements in my fitness. I left the Army in 2014 and opened CrossFit Wrexham in 2015.

And why coaching?

I’d trained at a nearly a dozen boxes between 2011 and 2015 and saw first hand the impact good, bad and great coaching had on athletes. This is what inspired me to start coaching and share my own experiences with athletes.

I had always been fascinated by the wealth of knowledge that RedPill are renowned for and took the mentorship in 2021 to learn more about their methodology. I joined the RedPill team after completing the mentorship and I’m still blown away by the level of detail that goes into shaping each and every athlete in the process.

What are your values as a coach?

Many of my values come from my time serving with the Army; courage, discipline, selfless commitment, respect, integrity and loyalty. I also learnt a lot about building a strong mindset within training environments through my service and this has become something I love to pass on to athletes that I work with because of the enormous impact it has on their training.

RedPill are unique in their approach to training and coaching and I think part of what makes us a close knit team is that our core values align so closely. We really care about the athletes that we coach.

What do you hope your future as a coach will look like?

Currently I’m focusing on improving my skills as a therapist, I’m currently studying a BSc in Sports Injury Rehabilitation where I’m applying the principles taught by RedPill in a wider setting to develop my skills in this area. Ultimately, I’d love to take an athlete from grass roots to the Games.
